Change causes anxiety, that’s a fact; not knowing what comes next makes us nervous.
When it comes to making changes in the workplace, it’s important for decision makers to be as transparent and informative as possible; when people have an idea of what will happen next, the perceived control decreases discomfort, as well as feelings of helplessness and anxiety.
Humans have an innate need to understand, to make sense of what’s happening. Projects where stakeholders know what’s going on allow fluency and enable a Business Analyst to perform well. Business Analysts, may be more resilient than most due to their constant exposure to change. As a result, they have learned how to navigate the murky waters of the unknown, with a greater degree of comfort than most. The small irritating details of things unknown; which agitate others, have less friction upon business analysts.
The next time you’re in a meeting with a business analyst, pay attention to their flexibility and ability to see things in more than one way. Take that person aside and ask, “How do you manage change?”
